What to expect at your first appointment

You’ve booked your visit, your appointment day has arrived, now what?

You’ll find our location easily right on Route 1. Park on the higher side of our parking lot and you’ll be entering right on the main level of our suite 206, go past the elevators, down the hallway to your right.

In our office you’ll have some forms to do if you’re new or you can start your forms online here with our intake. Then we’ll have a chat about how you’re feeling today, what brings you in, and then we’ll move on to the good part - getting an acupuncture treatment.

You’ll settle into a comfortable recliner in our treatment room. Others will probably already be resting during their treatments. You’ll take off your socks and shoes, roll up your sleeves and pantlegs if you wish, get your headphones ready if you want to listen to music while you’re resting. Kim may take your pulses on your wrists, then she’ll swab the acupoints on your arms and legs with rubbing alcohol, and insert a few sterile, single-use acupuncture needles just a tiny bit into your skin at the points. The needling takes about 30 seconds to a minute or so and is not painful - at most a small pinch can be felt initially, after that you should not feel any discomfort at all. Then you’ll take a rest - 30 minutes is the minimum recommended; you can rest as long as you like. It’s very common to fall asleep during an acupuncture treatment so if you start feeling drowsy just enjoy sinking into a nice nap. Kim always notes if you have a time to be up by and writes it down so there’s no need to worry about forgetting what time it is.

When you’re ready to go you’ll press the call button to signal (or you’ll be gently awakened at your “up time”) and your needles will be removed, you’ll get your shoes on and head into the front office. New clients will get a written treatment plan and recommendation on how often to come back - most people need a series of treatments to make progress and see improvements. Kim will show you the self-checkout station and then you’ll be on your way.
